A Mill Workers Life

At first Salt's 3,500 workers travelled to Saltaire from Bradford .The mill was very noisy to work in, many workers hands got trapped in the machines.The children who worked in cotton mills got paid about 1 shilling and the adults got paid 3 shillings.But Sir Titus Salt provided houses for his workers.Fresh water was piped into each home from Saltaire's own 500,000 gallon reservoir. Gas was also laid on to provide lighting and heating.Salt also employed young children in his factories and were totally to the 1833 factory act that attempted to prevent children under the age of nine working in textile mills.
